The Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards have recognised the INSPIRE Mentoring Project for its work with young people and volunteer mentors from the local community. The program asks volunteers to commit two hours per week to develop a trusting and safe friendship with young people in order to support them to make meaningful, law-abiding decisions about their future. As well as receiving a Certificate of Merit, the program received a cheque for $2000.

NAB Schools First is a national awards program that rewards outstanding school-community partnerships. The program encourages Australian schools to build partnerships with local businesses and community organisations to improve their students’ education beyond the classroom. Shire Wide and Cronulla High School were recognised for our partnership in the Re-engaging the Disengaging program which aimed to re]engage Year 9 students at risk of not completing high school. The program involved excursions to different workplaces that meant the young people were able to engage in hands on experiences.
